Description: The Little Dutch (Deutsch) Church is the second oldest building in Halifax, Nova Scotia after St. Paul’s Anglican Church. It was adapted as a church in 1756 and consecrated in 1760. Established by Otto William Schwartz, it is the oldest known surviving church in Canada associated with the German-Canadian community. By the early 1800’s the congregation migrated to St. George’s Round Church just down the street. The Little Dutch Church, though still a consecrated church in its own right, presently functions as a chapel of Saint George’s Round Church, hosting the annual Commemoration of the Faithful Departed (commonly called All Souls’ Day) on November 2nd, and the Daily Offices during summer months.Prospective visitors are encouraged to contact the Parish Office to arrange their visit.
